The Origin Story
Decode was born on a hiking trail.
I was walking with my daughter, who has autism, when her phone buzzed. A text from her boss: "Call me." Nothing else. No context. No hint of what it was about.
In that moment, I watched anxiety take over. Her mind raced through every possibility—Was she in trouble? Did she make a mistake? Was she being fired? The two words that would mean nothing to most people had triggered a spiral of panic.
And I realized: this is the problem. Not her. The communication.
"Call me" is compressed communication. It assumes the recipient will fill in the gaps with calm assumptions. But for someone who processes information differently, those gaps become voids that anxiety rushes to fill.
In that moment on the trail, a social decoder was born.
She's been my partner in building Decode ever since—testing every feature, providing feedback, and helping shape an experience that actually works for the people who need it most.
